Liz Workman had no formal art school training but her capability had been recognised at an early age. She took up oil painting and etching in the 1970s, inspired by the French countryside of the Correze where Liz and her husband Peter had a house close to the river Dordogne for over 20 years. There were also long spells living on boats in the Western and Eastern Mediterranean, inspiring her portfolio of pen and wash sketches.
In the ’90s Liz concentrated upon achieving a greater understanding of watercolour. Her travels are the primary inspiration, with her Khadi sketchbook in her rucksack to record sunlight and shadow on figures, buildings and landscape, boats, shore and seascapes.
Liz has worked under the guidance of several top professional artists and turned fully professional herself in 2002. She now paints in oil or watercolour, on location and in her studio in Gloucestershire. Portraiture is a new passion. Liz welcomes commissions for portrait studies and the painting of houses and gardens.
